History of Audi
Audi, Inc. is a German automobile manufacturer of high-end luxury automobiles and a Volkswagen AG subsidiary. Audi was founded in August 1913 by August Horff and has been controlled by the Horff family since. Audi has built cars since the early 20th century, but it wasn’t until the late 1920s that Audi saw a demand in the market. In 1932, Audi introduced its first model, the Audi A8. The A8 was an ultra-luxurious, eight-cylinder, open-top tourer car. The success of the A8 led Audi to release its second model, the Audi FWD, in 1936. Unlike the A8, the FWD was a four-door sedan. The FWD stayed in production until 1938 when it was discontinued because of the outbreak of World War II. After the war, Audi returned to the market with the model Audi 80. Like the A8 and FWD, the 80 was an ultra-luxurious four-door sedan. The 80 remained in production from 1949 to 1953. In 1952, Audi introduced the Audi four-cylinder engine, which was to stay in production throughout the rest of the company’s history.
